Want To Donate A Horse?

Thanks so much for your interest in placing your horse at Horses for Healing. It is only through the generosity of people like you that we can help our riders gain self-confidence, increase muscle tone and experience the thrill of riding a horse.

To submit a horse for consideration, please contact Debbie Studyvin at (479) 795-0570.

Below are some considerations to keep in mind regarding our requirements for horses:

  1. Horses must have full and complete vision.

  2. Horses must be sound in all four limbs. Soundness is important in order to have a rhythmic, cadenced, free-moving stride at the walk, trot and canter. Horses that can only walk with limited trotting are of minimal use to our riders. A horse with an unbalanced stride could cause disturbing responses in our riders.

  3. Horses should be between eight and sixteen years of age. Due to the amount of training we invest in our horses, we hope they will stay with us for several years. There are always exceptions, however.

  4. Any additional information you have, such as copies of registration papers, health records, photos, awards, etc., would be helpful.

It is important that your horse feel comfortable around a variety of people. Horses in our program are ridden for not more than three one-hour sessions a day. However, many people handle them over the course of each day. Several volunteers will groom and tack the horse. And in addition to the rider, a horse may have a leader and up to two side walkers.

If we determine that your horse seems appropriate for our program, we will arrange a time to meet and ride the horse. At that time, if we think the horse seems suitable, we will ask for a 30-day trial period at Horses for Healing. Depending on the age of the horse, the trial period is sometimes longer.

We appreciate you thinking of Horses for Healing as a placement for your horse.
